From Leckhampton church, cross Church Lane, take the footpath alongside an old moat and emerge into the fields. Ahead is an old cottage. Go through the gate by the cottage and immediately turn left walking close to the field boundary to the far corner. Here there is a footbridge and steps to climb towards a field which leads to Farm Lane. Across the road the footpath is blocked by a new housing development and at the time of writing, no alternative route has been provided. To progress along the Circular you will need to take a detour.

      Suggested detour:
Turn right on to Farm Lane. Go past Meadowsweet Road until you reach Brizen Lane. Turn left. Go past Nourse Close and head downhill to an open space on the right with a lit footpath winding through the estate. This is Footpath CHL7 to the techies. Follow this meandering path and where it forks, bear left and follow the hedgerow. At the end of the hedge is a stile. Go over the stile into a field and towards the low residential building straight ahead. You are now on Footpath ASH28.

      Detour continued:
A wooden kissing gate at the left end of the residence takes you around the building and out on to the driveway of Brizen Farm. This is a Public Right of Way and leads to Shurdington Road, the A46.
Turn left on to the footway alongside Shurdington Road and at the roundabout turn right on to Up Hatherley Way. You are now back on the Cheltenham Circular.

After about 400 metres along Up Hatherley Way take the footpath on the left which leads through several fields. To your left you will see the rocky outcrop of Leckhampton Hill.

After crossing Chargrove Lane you will see the tall narrow spire of Shurdington church directly ahead. This is the third church along the route and another churchyard though which the Circular footpath passes.
