From Bouncer’s Lane find the route on the left next to St. Mary’s School and follow the long track past the cemetery.

From here the original route goes into a wood but the way is obstructed so move on to the paved pathway to the left alongside a stream. Go past the first bridge on your right and on to the second, looking for the oak tree marker on the fingerpost. Cross this bridge into the field. The route passes a new water station and into the countryside. Soon you will see lovely views across Cheltenham to your right.

Continue in a southerly direction, but when you get alongside Oakley, the footpath deviates from the OS map and bears to the left. This is not so much of an issue if you are walking in a clockwise direction, but if travelling anti-clockwise you need to take a sharp right turn here or you will end up in Oakley. There is a public footpath way marker on a post at this junction, which at times gets overgrown, but there is no oak tree marker showing the route of the Circular.

You then follow the narrow track alongside wide green fields to Hewlett’s Reservoir.

There is a memorial plaque for Joan Kelland, former Secretary of the Gloucestershire Ramblers at the gate by the reservoir.
