Ramblers is asking anyone out walking for help with a survey of paths around the country
Download the Big Pathwatch App to your Android or iphone,
and bag a 1km OS square from the map. If you see a point of interest (a great view, tree or ancient monument) or something that could be improved (say wonky stile, overgrown gate or boggy ground) click the app to find your location and add the feature! Once you’ve walked the paths in your square, send the square to us. Don’t worry if you find a square with nothing, we need that one too. We’ll use your squares to help build a state of the nation picture of all our footpaths.
What do I do?
Full instructions are on ramblers website
http://www.ramblers.org.uk/get-involved/join-the-big-pathwatch.aspx
Can I use it offline?
Yes. If you click the square you’re about to walk before going out, the app will save the map to your phone. Once you return you can connect again to send the surveyed square to ramblers
What if the path isn’t marked on the map?
BigPath Watch is a survey of paths. If you’d like to let us know a difference between a map and the path, mark the point using the BPW app and take a screen image (swipe with your palm) to email to us.
I don’t have a smartphone
If you note down any features when you walk a square you can use the web based version linked from
