Walk along Cold Pool Lane for about 400m and look for a narrow gap with a stile to your right, just before Ham Brook. Walk the full length of this field, passing under an overhead pipe. Go through a gate and then diagonally left across another field to Badgeworth Lane. Turn right at the lane and immediately right again into the next field. Take a diagonal left route and with the field hedge to your right, follow this to a wide opening. Cross two further fields, through gates. At the end the path meets Grovefield Way. However, for an interesting detour look for the narrow bridleway to your right, before reaching the road and follow this alongside one of the UK’s smallest Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), which is home to the rare Adder’s-tongue Spearwort known locally as the Badgeworth Buttercup.
Turn left on to Grovefield Way and follow the ring road alongside a housing estate until you reach North Road West. Turn left and walk along the verge to the end of the lane. Turn right passing beneath the A40 and continue walking along the verge to Bamfurlong Lane. There is no footway in this section. After turning left into Bamfurlong Lane, look for a broken fingerpost on the right leading along a field edge which is marked as Cotswold View on the OS map. This is the original route of the Cheltenham Circular, however there is now a choice, as another route further down Bamfurlong Lane has been way-marked.
For the longer detour, walk a little further down Bamfurlong Lane. Just before a garden centre and some cottages there is a footbridge to your right with the familiar oak tree way-marker on it.
The path here has been landscaped with some ornamental rocks and grasses. At the end there are two footpaths marked, only one of which is on the OS map. Take the right hand path and follow the field boundary to the far right corner of the field where you will rejoin the original route.
Turn right on to the B4063 and shortly after will be some cottages on the left with the footpath running alongside. This is The Golden Valley and the path will lead to Fiddler’s Green..

The rare buttercup grows in a pond. The site is open to the public one weekend in June each year when the buttercup is in flower.
